Odetta A. Bender, 85, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at her residence, the Hearth of Sycamore Village in Fort Wayne. Born in Fort Wayne, Odetta worked both as an office manager and bookkeeper with St. Joe Center Vet Hospital for 29 years and later for several other local animal clinics. She served as past-President of Concord Place Community Association, and was a Precinct Committee Person for the Republican National Party. Odetta loved cooking, jazz music, fishing, and most of all her dogs and cats. Surviving are her daughter, Jennifer Mullin of Fernandina Beach, FL; son, John (Renee) Bender of Fort Wayne; 3 grandchildren, Sean Bender, Joey Bender, and Amelia Bender; and 1 great-granddaughter Madison. Odetta was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Bender; daughter, Antoinette Bibb; parents, Ralph and Leona Blue; brother, Jack Blue. Service is 2:30 pm, Saturday, August 12, 2017 at D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Rd with calling beginning at 11:00 am. Memorials may be made to the Allen County Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
